This project took place at Plant Arkwright, Georgia Power’s former plant. Plant Arkwright occupies approximately 230 acres along the Ocmulgee River northwest of Macon, GA. Ash pond 1 is located approximately 2500 feet south of the former main operation area of the plant. The confluence of Beaverdam Creek and the Ocmulgee River delimits the southern capping and closure of pond number one. This project included a first phase of stabilization of slopes surrounding Ash Pond 1. The project consisted of: Erosion control on the work area as well as floating barriers in the river to prevent any contamination of the waters; slope stabilization thru the construction of marine mattresses and gabion walls along the banks of the ash pond, drainage routes, ash removal, control and capping with clay, final grading and grassing.
